Sophomore reserve Haiden Palmer tossed in a team-high 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting and Kayla Standish added a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to lead the Gonzaga Bulldogs to a 70-54 victory over the visiting Montana Grizzlies in nonconference women’s basketball action Sunday.
Ten of Standish’s 13 boards were off the offensive glass and the senior added four blocked shots and three assists. Meghan Winters scored 11 points for Gonzaga (7-2).
Kenzie de Boer had a game-high 17 points for the Grizzlies (4-6).
Rosie Tarnowski came off the bench to post team highs of 14 points and eight rebounds and the Washington State Cougars (6-4) overpowered the UC Riverside Highlanders 74-35 in nonconference play in Pullman.
Ireti Amojo added 12 points and four steals and reserve Hana Potter chipped in with 10 points and four boards for the Cougars.
WSU’s defense smothered the Highlanders (1-7), holding them to 21 percent shooting from the floor for the game. The Cougars made 46 percent from the floor, including 68 percent in the second half when they outscored UC Riverside 51-20.
Isiah Umipig poured in 25 points to lead five players in double figures and the Cal State Fullerton Titans (6-3) breezed to a 91-76 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles (5-4) in nonconference play in Fullerton, Calif.
Collin Chiverton finished with a game-high 26 points for the Eagles, while Cliff Colimon added 23 points and Jeffrey Forbes scored 12.
The Eagles got off 17 more shots than the Titans, but managed to hit just 43 percent from the floor. Fullerton buried 53 percent of its shots.
Omondi Amoke tallied a double-double for the Titans with 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Preston Wynne tossed in a game-high 27 points, DeAngelo Jones scored 15 and Nate Frisbie came off the bench to score 12 and grab a team-high nine rebounds as the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (9-0) remained unbeaten with a 76-66 win over the Lane Titans in the championship game of the Dale J. Bates Invitational tournament in Eugene, Ore.
CC Spokane won despite making just 33 percent of its shots from the floor, while Lane connected at a 49 percent clip.
Stephen Madison netted 17 points and seven rebounds to lead the Idaho Vandals (6-4) to a 73-62 victory over the Seattle Redhawks (2-5) in nonconference play in Seattle.
Djim Bandoumel and reserve Matt Borton each added 13 points for the Vandals.
Sterling Carter led the Redhawks with 19 points and Aaron Broussard scored 15. Seattle has lost three in a row.
The Vandals shot a blistering 61 percent from the floor in the first half, connecting on 17 of 28 shots in opening up a 43-37 lead at the break. Idaho cooled off a bit in the second half, but still shot 55 percent (27 of 49) for the game.
Idaho Vandals junior punter Bobby Cowan became the second player in school history to be named to the Football Writers Association of America All-America team.
Cowan finished second in the nation with an average of 46.4 yards per kick. His 88 punts this season tied a school record, while his total yardage of 4,084 set a school record.
Mike Iupati (2009) was the only other Vandal to make the FWAA All-America team.
