Wenatchee toddler shoots self with handgun

Associated Press
WENATCHEE, Wash. — A 3-year-old boy is in the hospital after shooting himself in the leg with a handgun left on a nightstand by his mother. The Wenatchee World reports that the boy is in satisfactory condition at Central Washington Hospital. Chelan County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jerry Moore says the bullet entered and exited through the lower leg. Moore says the boy started playing with the .357-caliber handgun that was left on a nightstand by his mother on Friday morning. The boy’s mother told the sheriff’s office that the gun is usually kept in a safe but that she had taken it out the night before because she heard noises outside her home. The mother was home when the shooting happened.
