Fog and low clouds return

Fog and low clouds returned to the Spokane region today in an ongoing dry spell that has left stagnant air hovering over the region. National Weather Service forecasters are calling for a chance of snow flurries and a high near freezing. Lows tonight should be in the 20s. Patchy fog is expected. Light snow and for and a temperature of 23 were reported at 7 a.m. at Spokane International Airport. A powerful area of high air pressure is maintaining its control over the weather today through Wednesday, but the forecast is showing signs of a weather change. The region has a 60 percent chance of snow on Wednesday night and Thursday with as much as an inch or two possible. Dry weather and partly sunny skies arrive at the end of the week. A stage 1 burning ban remained in effect along with an air stagnation advisory. The advisory is in effect through noon on Thursday. Only certified cleaner-burning stoves and inserts may be used during the partial ban. Air quality in Spokane was in the good range this morning.
