Chiefs host Everett tonight

Hockey: The Spokane Chiefs will try to erase the memory of their last Western Hockey League game – or even their last two home games – when they face the Everett Silvertips at the Arena tonight.

The Chiefs (14-9-2-3, 33 points) had a 3-0 lead over Prince George entering the third period Saturday but lost 4-3 in a shootout. Two weeks earlier, they also let the Cougars come back for a 5-4 win at the Arena.

Between those two games against Prince George, the Chiefs went 3-2-1-0 on a six-game road trip. The last game on Friday was a 5-2 win over the Silvertips (5-21-0-5, 15), who are in last place in the Western Conference.

Spokane should have defenseman Brenden Kichton back after he was released by Team Canada on Tuesday. Kichton missed the Chiefs’ last game while attending tryout camp in Calgary, Alberta, for the World Junior Hockey Championships.

However, the Chiefs will lose forward Dominik Uher, who has been selected for the Czech Republic team.

Ruling erases TKO on Hopkins

Boxing: The California State Athletic Commission has overturned Bernard Hopkins’ second-round TKO loss to Chad Dawson in October, declaring the bout to be a no-decision.

The commission’s move Tuesday means the 46-year-old Hopkins still has never lost a fight by stoppage in his 23-year career.

Referee Pat Russell initially ruled Dawson hadn’t fouled Hopkins when he crouched and rose up underneath the leaning champion and shrugged him to the canvas at the Staples Center.

Hopkins said he couldn’t continue after separating his shoulder in the fall.

Hopkins says justice was served by the commission’s ruling, and he hopes to fight again early next year.
