Christmas not time for appeasement

It was fun to read Stefanie Pettit’s Front Porch column (Voices, Dec. 8). She is very creative and solicitous to her friends, choosing just the perfect card and message to satisfy their druthers. She tugged and pushed, folded and molded every sentiment to suit the receiver.

In this “everything goes, there are no absolutes, who am I to impose my opinions on someone else?” kind of world, the true meaning of Christmas just took a huge back seat so everyone may be appeased.

Actually, Christmas is not the time for global appeasement but the time to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. That is the one true meaning of Christmas. I love receiving cards and holiday letters from my friends, too. If their card says “ho ho ho,” I embrace their sentiments and individuality, always remaining true to my own personal beliefs. Christmas is the time for glory, not duplicity.

Please do not send me a modest and/or spiritual card to patronize me. Be yourself and let’s all enjoy the season for what it truly stands for: acceptance, forgiveness, and most of all, love.

Merry Christmas, everyone!
