Preps roundup: Mt. Spokane tops North Central in wrestling

Billy Goforth’s third-round pin of Mitchell Bocook at 152 pounds Wednesday clinched Mt. Spokane’s 43-28 Greater Spokane League wrestling win at North Central.

The Wildcats (2-1) led 28-22 after NC (2-1) picked up wins by Jacob Clute (132) and Izaec Quintanilla (138). Mt. Spokane’s John Hoover (145) beat Cody Kiourkas 9-4 for a 31-22 lead heading into Goforth’s match.

Ferris 51, Gonzaga Prep 26: Ben Alexander (170) opened the night with a 7-3 win and the visiting Saxons (1-2) followed with seven pins in a win over the Bullpups (0-3).

University 67, Rogers 12: Kyle Wyatt (195) opened with a 14-5 major decision and the Titans (3-0) tacked on 10 pins in a home win over the Pirates (1-2).

Mead 63, Lewis and Clark 15: Chandler Rogers’ 42-second pin at 170 helped the Panthers (3-0) defeat the host Tigers. Jared Tso (132) of LC (0-3) held off Wyatt Nemic 14-10.

Central Valley 61, Shadle Park 9: Tanner Davis (170), fourth at state last year, edged Brandon Bunke 4-2 and the Bears (3-0) followed with four pins while defeating the host Highlanders (0-3).

Great Northern League

Cheney 58, Clarkston 22: Jared Rivera (120) pinned Aaron Guz with 7 seconds left after trailing 18-9, helping the Blackhawks to a win over the host Bantams. Clarkston’s Diamond Cornish (145) pinned two-time state participant Dakota Mauzay.

Boys basketball

Reno (Nev.) tournament

Post Falls 57, Reno 45: Marcus Colbert finished with 15 points and four assists as the Trojans (3-0) opened the tournament with a win. Michael Hillman added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Post Falls.

Nonleague

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 51, Priest River 39: Conner Moffatt and Kyle Powell combined for 31 points, six rebounds and six steals as the host Eagles (3-3) beat the Spartans (1-5).

Gymnastics

Cadie Pratt won the vault (8.9 points) and balance beam (9.2) on the way to the all-around title (36.050) as Mead posted the top four all-around scores while winning a four-way GSL meet at Ferris.
