BOISE — Police have completed an investigation into the murder of a University of Idaho graduate student, finding a professor acted alone when he killed her outside of her home in Moscow and then committed suicide. Police say Ernesto Bustamante resigned from the university Aug. 19 and three days later, gunned down 22-year-old Katy Benoit. Bustamante later checked into a hotel, requested an 11 a.m. wake-up call for the next day, and then turned a gun on himself. The Moscow Police Department announced Friday it had finished its investigation into the deaths. Police say Bustamante had created files on his personal computer that including Benoit’s class schedule and her home address. Police identified a .45 caliber handgun recovered in Bustamante’s hotel room as the weapon used to kill Benoit.
