A body believed to be that of a man missing since this weekend was recovered Tuesday in Riverfront Park, and a 21-year-old is facing a murder charge in connection with the death, police said.

Taken into custody was Yukio M. Rideb, who is being held at the county jail on a second-degree murder charge in the death of Romero J. Vivit III, 21.

“This Yukio guy had been with him at the bar and was really good friends with him,” said Spokane police Officer Jennifer DeRuwe. “We don’t know exactly what happened or how he died.”

Police expect more details to be released Wednesday, she said.

Vivit was at the Revolver Bar, 227 W. Riverside Ave., early Saturday and may have been assaulted in Riverfront Park afterward, police say. The body, which had visible injuries, was pulled from the Spokane River on Tuesday and will have to be positively identified by the county Medical Examiner’s Office, DeRuwe said. The investigation is ongoing.

Park staff found blood near the Louff Carrousel, where Vivit was last seen, on Saturday, but cleaned it up without contacting police.

“If they had believed that there was more to just cleaning up a mess which they routinely find in the park they certainly would have called (sooner),” said city spokeswoman Marlene Feist. “But they had no indication that that was a crime scene.”

Feist said staff notified police of the blood after learning of the missing person.

Vivit’s family reported him missing after finding his bloody clothes near the river, police say.

His mother said Vivit, who has a 2-year-old son, was born in Spokane and participated in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts growing up.

Police divers and a sheriff’s helicopter were at the park most of the day.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

What a chauvinistic creep you are!

It’s so bad to laugh at O/T comments attached to a story like this, but Seer almost made me spew Diet Pepsi all over my laptop.

Thus, I give you the greatest tribute ever to Officer DeRuwe:

Glad I could provide a chuckle, Loudin. You crack me up all the time.

I looked her up on google, she looked OK to me.

It feels like things are getting ugly in reference to SDP in general. I see no reason to attack them personally unless they are part of the “salute karl” gang, or have shown public disdain for those that pay their salary, and whom they really work for. And, of course, any involved in killing Otto or other unarmed, innocent, civilians.

So sad for this grieving family and their loss…

I find it strange that the Park Staff did not report the blood? And troubled that they cleaned it up; they erased evidence.

Attacking? Come on brother…there are entire “lifestyle” websites dedicated to the worship of the aforementioned badonkadonk.

Personally, it’s not my thing. But if you are into that, Spokane is like heaven…check out the mom’s in one-piecers at the Shadle Park pool next summer. When they walk, you actually hear a bass-line…

Meaning no disrespect to Tap fans, this comment section went downhill fast. Time to stop analyzing Ofc. DeRuwe and pay attention to the awfulness of this death.

It’s not a positive sign that there’s a downtown bar named Revolver (they probably weren’t thinking of the Beatles) and it’s ghastly that a guy was brutally murdered and bled out on the steps of the city’s signature carousel so lovingly restored by the Jr. League way back when. The optics are kind of dissonant, if you get my drift.

More and more being in Spokane leaves me feeling like I was involuntarily cast in a sequel to “Winter’s Bone.”

And what’s the deal with the park crew ? Are assaults now so common in Riverfront Park that when the park crew sees a pool of blood they clean just clean it up as if to say, “Oh, well. Get some sawdust. Looks like another morning after the night before”?

At midseason, the Seattle Seahawks were a joke with most of the talk being about which top 10 draft position they might land.

You know what is actually as disturbing as this violent act? Trolls spewing insignificant and hateful comments about a person at the scene trying to do their important job. What should be comments concerning this poor young man, his family and the search to find his killer(s), we read idiotic and sophomoric bathroom humor. Seer, you continue to be an example of what is denigrating our fine city. I am a proud Spokane-ite and have lived here for over 40 years. The more unconscious vitriol I read on our local news blog (such as your’s almost daily), the more I pray for our city.
