Toddler run over by father recovering

The condition of a Liberty Lake toddler who sustained head injuries last week after being run over by her father is improving.

The girl was hospitalized after the Friday afternoon incident, but is expected to return home after a week, according to a Spokane County Sheriff’s Office news release.

“The tough little girl is improving well,” said sheriff’s Spokesman Sgt. Dave Regan in a news release. “She sustained a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain.”

The girl has been in the intensive care unit at a local hospital since her father backed over her in his Dodge pickup truck at their home in the 2400 block of Chase Lane. The mother had set the toddler down to go inside and grab something and the father, thinking the child was with her mother, began to move the truck and struck the girl.

Authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were factors and the parents have not been charged with a crime.

I’m sorry to take this comment in a different direction from the article, but I just can’t stand to see incorrect grammar in what should be a professionally-written article. The headline should read “Toddler RUN over by father recovering” and the first sentence should read “The condition of a Liberty Lake toddler who sustained head injuries last week after being RUN over by her father is improving.”

I’m glad the child is improving. It’s too bad I can’t say the same for the grammar of the author.

Thank God the child is alive and on the mend. It is hard to imagine the grief and pain the parents are experiencing. I trust they to on on the mend.

Glad the little one is doing better. I hope that she makes a complete recovery.

I’m sure the parents are both feeling immensely guilty. I’m also hoping for a complete recovery for her.

ginniet, I totally agree. Professional news writers should have perfect grammar. There’s no excuse for this.

Seriously now, do you really think the SR has professional news writers?? The notion itself is preposterous given the fact most of it reads like some tripe a junior high screwl kid pasted together in a 1970’s era journalism class. Mr. Vennum would be appalled!

Thanks for correcting your errors, Spokesman, and thanks for agreeing with me, catfuzz. Sandy, we can always hope for quality! I went to school in the 1960s, and my mom was an English teacher, so it’s just basic to me. I don’t know who Mr. Vennum is or was, but I know that I’m appalled at much of the writing I see today. My daughter even corrects some signs she sees around town!
