Wilson, Saxons upset University in boys basketball

University had no answer for Chris Wilson and it led to the Titans’ first loss of the season.

Wilson scored a career-high 31 points, including the winning basket, as Ferris (4-2, 3-2) upset University 75-72 in a Greater Spokane League boys basketball game Tuesday night at Ferris.

With 12 seconds left in the game, Wilson made three free throws to the tie it. Beau Lockmer stole an inbounds pass and got the assist on Wilson’s 15-foot jump shot with 2 seconds left. U-Hi then threw away a length-of-the-court pass. Chase Haack was then fouled and made a free throw for the final score.

Wilson made all four of his second-half 3-point attempts and scored 25 points after halftime.

Brett Bailey and Zane McDonald scored 20 apiece for the Titans (6-1, 4-1).

Gonzaga Prep 62, Rogers 48: Ryan Gregory scored 19 points as the Bullpups (4-3, 4-1) gained control in the second half and beat the host Pirates (2-3, 2-3). T.J. Bracey added 13 points for the Bullpups. Carson Murray scored a game-high 20 points for the Pirates.

North Central 62, Mead 55: The Indians (2-5, 2-3) led by 13 with good first-half shooting and held on in the fourth quarter to beat a rallying Panthers (0-7, 0-5) team at North Central. Chase McDuffie scored 18 points and Chandler George added 14 for North Central. Forrest Baker led Mead with 12 points.

Lewis and Clark 44, Mt. Spokane 36: Austin Damon scored 18 points and Tanner Johnson added 14 as the Tigers (6-1, 4-1) beat the host Wildcats (2-5, 1-4). Lewis and Clark made 16 of 22 free throws to gain an advantage. Stu Stiles led Mt. Spokane with 10 points.

Bi-County League

St. George’s 57, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 48: Erik Muelheims scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the first quarter as the Dragons (5-1, 3-0) beat the visiting Broncos (3-6, 1-5). Dylan Hartz tossed in a game-high 22 points for Lind-Ritzville/Sprague.

Davenport 68, Springdale 26: The Gorillas (5-1, 4-1) gained control early and cruised past the host Chargers (3-4, 1-4). Joey Gunning scored 17 points and Wyatt Evers added 12 for Davenport. Josh Anderson led Springdale with 10 points.

Liberty 61, Kettle Falls 35: Dylan Salsbury scored 19 points and grabbed 17 rebounds – 10 on the offensive glass – as the Lancers (3-4, 2-3) routed the visiting Bulldogs (1-7, 0-6). Natahn Disque and Conner McKern scored 11 points apiece for Kettle Falls.

Colfax 61, Reardan 53: Brandon Gfeller scored 16 of his game-high 22 points in the second half as the Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) beat the visiting Indians (2-4, 2-3). Johnny Keiffer led Reardan with 15 points.

Nonleague

Pullman 52, Lakeland 39: The Greyhounds (6-1) coasted to a win over the host Hawks (2-5) in Rathdrum. Austin Drake had 17 points, five steals and four assists for Pullman.

Kellogg 70, Lewiston 49: Ryan Baggerly scored a game-high 23 points as the Wildcats (7-1) routed the visiting Bengals (2-5). Ryan McDonald added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Kellogg. Rafa Hewett-Steiger led Lewiston with 11 points.

Timberlake 74, Newport 58: Keegan Scott connected on all four of his 3-point attempts and scored 18 points to lead the Tigers (6-2) past the visiting Grizzlies (5-3) at Spirit Lake. Jon Thompson scored 13 points and Johnny Hayden passed out six assists for Timberlake. Jake Wiley tallied a game-high 33 points for Newport.

Freeman 70, Priest River 43: The Scotties (4-4) put the game away in a lopsided second quarter and beat the visiting Spartans (3-6). Freeman outscored Priest River by 24 points in the second and led by 33 points at halftime. Cody Unfred made four 3-pointers and finished with 30 points for the Scotties. Dalton Sommer led the Spartans with 14 points.

Bonners Ferry 50, Deer Park 47: Alex Awbrey had 16 points and nine rebounds as the Badgers (3-4) came from behind to beat the visiting Stags (3-3). Uconn Peone led the Stags with 19 points.

Chewelah 72, Selkirk 30: Ben Johnstone scored 13 of his game-high 18 points in the decisive second quarter as the Cougars (4-2) routed the visiting Rangers (4-6). Tyler Monasmith scored 16 points and Andrew Pugh added 15 points and 11 rebounds for Chewelah.

Okanogan 63, Colville 61: Joe Townsend scored 18 points and eclipsed 1,000 for his career as the Bulldogs edged the visiting Indians (5-4). J.R. Henry led Colville with a game-high 26 points.

Omak 69, Republic 23: Ryder Lewis led four players in double figures with 17 points as the Pioneers whipped the visiting Tigers (1-7). Jeremy Bertrang and Saxon Brown scored eight points apiece for Republic.

Kamiah 59, Colton 44: Jack Nygaard scored 20 points and the host Kubs handed the Wildcats (6-1) their first loss of the season. Josh Straughan scored 19 points and Jake Straughan added 13 for Colton.

Rosalia 63, Cusick 59: The Panthers cut the Spartans’ 20-point lead to two late in the fourth quarter, but Rosalia (5-2) held on to beat host Cusick (3-6). David Littleton scored 12 points for the Spartans.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 71, Columbia 36: Derek Isaak nailed five 3-pointers and finished with 25 points as the Warriors (5-0) overwhelmed the visiting Lions (1-7). Thunder Wellhausen scored 12 points for Almira/Coulee-Hartline.

Soap Lake 63, Wilbur-Creston 36: Jason Korneychuck scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Eagles past the visiting Wildcats (5-0). Trystan Rosman led W-C with 12 points.
