In brief: Woman allegedly didn’t pay for Botox, Juvederm

From Staff Reports

Coeur d’Alene police are looking for a woman suspected of stealing $1,700 worth of Botox and Juvederm treatments from a dermatologist’s office.

North Idaho Dermatology employees told police a woman who gave the name of Louise Greene had work done at the business on Dec. 6, a news release from the police department said.

She was in the business for about an hour and had $1,705 worth of treatments on her face.

Employees said the woman began writing a check and then said she needed to get a different checkbook. She walked out of the building and never returned, the release said.

The woman gave a Post Falls address when she made the appointment, but when she arrived, she provided a different Post Falls address. Police checked both addresses but found no one, the release said.

Employees told police the woman said she’d just moved here from Seattle and had a referral note from a doctor in Pocatello.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police department at (208) 769-2320.

Police link man to theft at Wishing Star, others

A burglary suspect arrested after officers tracked his shoe prints in fresh snow is believed to be responsible for a series of break-ins, including one at the Wishing Star Foundation, Spokane police announced Thursday.

Jermaine M. Garland, 29, is in jail on $25,000 bond after his arrest late Tuesday.

Police responding to an alarm at Salon Centric, 124 E. Short Ave., tracked shoe prints to the area of East Second Avenue and South Sherman Street, where they found Garland and located property stolen from the salon in his backpack, as well as marijuana. Officers believe he also burglarized Peters and Sons Flowers, 512 E. Pacific Ave., police said Thursday.

Detective David Staben connected Garland to six commercial burglaries, including a Dec. 7 break-in at Wishing Star, 139 S. Sherman St., in which Christmas presents for sick children were stolen. The presents had been donated by the Washington State Patrol.

The organization has been overwhelmed with donations since then.

Salvation Army shy of its red kettle $385,000 goal

With just a few days of bell-ringing to go before Christmas, the Spokane Salvation Army was $75,000 short of its $385,000 fundraising goal Thursday.

In the past week there has not been the same fundraising push there has been in years past, spokeswoman Heather Byrd said.

“I think people are still giving to local charities, but they’re maybe being a little more selective,” she said. “I think people are being a little more tight whether they are able to donate or not.”

If everyone in Spokane put a dollar in a kettle before Christmas, Byrd said, the Salvation Army would raise twice its fundraising goal.

“Hopefully people will be out doing that last-minute stuff and look to the red kettles,” she said.

Police detain suspects in large burglary ring

Coeur d’Alene police have several people in custody and are looking for several more in connection with a massive burglary ring.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants Thursday for eight people believed to be responsible for numerous daytime home-invasion burglaries that have occurred in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Rathdrum, Hayden, Sandpoint and Spokane.

Joseph A. Lynch, 29, Jesse A. Williamson, 27 and Kathleen E. Kelly, 29, all of Coeur d’Alene, are wanted for various theft-related charges, said Sgt. Christie Wood, spokeswoman for the Coeur d’Alene Police Department. Police are also looking for Susan N. Burke, alias Susan Church, 50, of Spokane.

Emily A. Lynch, 28, of Coeur d’Alene, is already in custody, as well as Heather D. Yao, alias Heather Perry, 31, Adam C. Ramirez III, 29, and Kasie D. Gordon, 25, all of Post Falls. Yao was in custody for a felony hit-and-run. Ramirez is on parole for a 2009 home invasion robbery.

Bond is $100,000 for all.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of those still at large is asked to call the Coeur d’Alene Police Department at (208) 769-2320.

Fluid leak grounds flight from Chicago in Spokane

A United Airlines flight made an unscheduled stop in Spokane due to a hydraulic fluid leak Wednesday night. The 157 passengers bound for Portland were forced to spend the night in Spokane.

Flight 959 from Chicago, which flew from London in the previous stage, first landed at Spokane International Airport around 10:30 p.m. to refuel. That was an unscheduled stop, airport spokesman Todd Woodard said.

The Boeing 757 then departed at 11 p.m., and shortly after takeoff the pilot detected the leak, Woodard said. The plane returned to the Spokane airport at 11:30 p.m., with an emergency response on the ground requested by the pilot as a precaution.

The passengers got off the plane as United inspected the leak and arranged for another flight. A second plane was to be flown in from San Francisco to complete the trip around 3:45 a.m., but that was canceled, Woodard said.

The passengers finally were flown to Portland midday Thursday.
