Nine charged in killing of rapper
Six still at large following Nov. 27 incident at hotel
Nine men have been charged for their alleged roles in a fatal shooting involving two rappers at a Spokane hotel.
Spokane police detectives are looking for six men on second-degree assault charges for a Nov. 27 fight that led to the shooting death of Jose J. “Junior” Solis, 21, of Moses Lake.
Kalen J. Bedford, 21; Jermaine S. Bedford, 22; Tyrone J. Carell, 23; Roderick D. Shanks, 21; Rashad F. Toussiant, 25; and Stafone N. “Stix” Fuentes, 27; are wanted for second-degree assault.
Aaron A. Maxwell, 23; Anthony L. Fuentes, 29; and Michael J. Charles, 34; already have been taken into custody.
John A. “Lil Danger” Castro, 27, was arrested just after the homicide and remains in jail on a second-degree murder charge.
Solis and his friends were staying at the Quality Inn, 110 E. 4th Ave., and hosting a party following a rap concert at Ichiban Sushi that ended early because of a fight.
Solis was shot in a fourth-floor hallway. Police arrived to find his friends trying to carry him out of the hotel.
According to court documents filed Thursday, hotel surveillance video shows the suspects getting off an elevator on the fourth floor of the hotel. Jermaine Bedford began arguing with a friend of Solis’, Jazman Quarles, and the suspects beat Quarles’ boyfriend, Dennis Bryant. Solis soon arrived to help Bryant and Quarles, who suffered severe head lacerations from thrown beer bottles. A single gunshot then rang out and Solis ran into a hotel room as the other men fled. An autopsy determined Solis died of a single gunshot wound to his chest.
A woman who was outside the hotel smoking took a photo of the front license plate of the SUV in which some of the men left. Other suspects, including Castro, left in a Cadillac Escalade, which stopped near East Seventh Avenue and South Hatch Street as police followed. Castro fled but was arrested a couple blocks away, according to police.
Many of the suspects have lengthy records with law enforcement. Carell and Kalen Bedford, who has felony drug convictions, were the intended targets of a shooting at Hoopfest in 2010 that injured two women, according to police. Stafone Fuentes was briefly jailed last summer after news of his uncle’s murder outside a rap concert in Montana in June revealed to his probation officer that he’d left the state without permission.
Toussiant, a former track star at West Valley High School, has convictions for bail jumping and domestic violence assault. A conviction for intimidating a public servant was dismissed upon appeal. Anthony Fuentes has a conviction for first-degree assault.
