Milbank wrong on abortion

Where but in our postmodern society would someone argue for the elimination of nearly one-half of a culture’s or population’s offspring as a good thing? Or even worse, that we could encourage that group of people that they should do it to themselves?

Columnist Dana Milbank (Dec. 8) makes the assumption that an unborn fetus is not really a human, so destroying half of them is of no consequence. Under any other circumstances, the loss of 50 percent of the children (potential children?) would be condemned and those who encouraged such a thing to happen would be decried as evil, and even racist. But not when it comes to abortion. Then it becomes open-minded and forward-thinking.

We deserve better debate, regardless of our political viewpoints.
