T-Wolves top Chiawana in boys Inn-vitational
Lake City took control in the third quarter and held off a Chiawana rally in the fourth to beat the Riverhawks 48-45 at the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational on Tuesday at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene.
Luke Ness scored 10 points and Kyle Guice added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves (5-3), who won their second straight after a three-game losing streak.
Chiawana closed the gap in the fourth but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Post Falls 65, Prairie 33: Also at the Inn-vitational, Marcus Colbert hit six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points as the Trojans (7-0) routed Prairie 65-33.
The Trojans built a commanding 17-point first-quarter lead.
Post Falls will play Lake City today at 4:30 p.m. in the semifinals.
Coeur d’Alene 62, Foster 38: The Vikings (4-2) came alive in the second half and cruised past Foster 62-38. Devon Loy had a game-high 19 points for the Vikings, who play Davis tonight at 7:30 in the semifinals.
Freeman tournament
Freeman 52, Lakeland 47: Derek Harter scored 21 points and Kellen Miller added 12 points and six assists as the Scotties (5-4) edged the Hawks 52-47 at Freeman.
Despite the close score, Lakeland (2-6) never led.
Matt Horne and Aaron Spencer had 12 points apiece for the Hawks.
West Valley 64, St. Maries 41: Also at Freeman, Jake Love led four players in double figures with 15 points and the Eagles beat St. Maries 64-41.
The Eagles (6-0) jumped out to a 19-point first-quarter lead thanks in large part to their full-court pressure defense.
Shawn Fay and Darian Vandermark each grabbed seven rebounds for West Valley. Warren Joiner led the Lumberjacks (3-1) with 14 points.
West Valley and Freeman will play today at 5:15 in the championship game.
Davidson Classic
Valley Christian 67, Seton Catholic 38: Craver Small had 15 points and seven rebounds and Bo Piersol added 11 points and 14 boards as the Panthers (6-0) routed Seton Catholic 67-38 at Whitman College in Walla Walla.
Valley Christian plays Weston-McEwen today at 3:30 p.m.
Wallace tournament
Kellogg goes 2-0: Kellogg had a good showing at the round-robin Wallace Christmas Tournament in Wallace, beating Coeur d’Alene Charter and Wallace.
Ryan McDonald had 17 points and Garret Wendt added 11 as the Wildcats beat Coeur d’Alene Charter 66-31 in their opening game.
Kellogg (9-1) opened up a 10-point first-quarter lead and cruised the rest of the way. Bryan Smith led the Panthers (4-4) with 13 points.
In their second game, the Wildcats stymied Wallace (3-3) with their pressure defense and ran past the Miners 68-40. Wendt scored 19 points and McDonald chipped in 16 for Kellogg.
Andrew Brackebusch tallied a team-high 15 points for Wallace.
