Area roundup: NIC women open tourney with lopsided win

 

Ashleigh Kelman-Poto finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots Wednesday as North Idaho’s women roared past Seattle 88-35 to open the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic at Longview, Wash.

Katie Buskey added 15 points and four assists for the Cardinals (8-2), who will meet Yakima Valley (9-2) at 6 tonight in the semifinals. Buskey finished 6 for 6 from the free-throw line to lead the team’s 18-for-23 effort.

Prep wrestling

Tyler Thomas (106 pounds) and Josh Bradley (132) won their divisions while leading Cheney to the team title at the Pullman Christmas Invite.

The Blackhawks piled up 152 points for a 32-point gap on runner-up Pomeroy at the 17-team event.

Other area winners were: Kain Feltwell, Liberty, 113; Gabe Davis, Moscow, 152; and Daython Maltone, Colfax, 285.
