NIC women win Lower Columbia tournament

Katie Buskey and Korina Baker scored 11 points apiece and combined for nine of North Idaho’s 23 steals Friday as the Cardinals won the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic in Longview, Wash., by defeating Whatcom 63-43.

The Cardinals (10-2) broke away in the second half by shooting 18 of 33 from the field. Baker and Buskey combined for seven assists and 10-of-19 shooting from the field.

Allie Holterman had a game-high 13 points and Cambie Edwards added a game-high 15 rebounds for the Orcas (5-5).

Southern Miss 63, Idaho 62: Jamierra Faulkner scored 23 points, including the winning jumper with 29 seconds left, as the Golden Eagles (6-7) edged the Vandals (5-9) at the Lady Griz Holiday Classic in Missoula.

The Vandals missed field-goal attempts with 19 and 2 seconds left.

Alyssa Charlston scored 30 points for UI, shooting 10 of 16 from the field, including 5 of 5 on 3-pointers, and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line.

Faulkner also had team highs of seven assists and four steals.
