Wiley scores 32 points to lead Newport
Newport had just enough Jake Wiley to hold off Springdale on Friday night.
The University of Montana-bound Wiley scored 32 points as the visiting Grizzlies (6-3) turned back the Chargers 58-53 in nonleague play.
Springdale (3-6) trailed by 22 points but stormed back to cut Newport’s lead to three points with 32 seconds left.
Kyle Cummings topped Springdale with 18 points.
Chewelah 61, St. George’s 44: Derek Smith finished with 20 points and eight rebounds as the visiting Cougars (8-2) wore down the Dragons (5-2) in the second half. Ben Johnstone scored all 13 of his points in the second half and added six rebounds for Chewelah, which took a six-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Erik Muelheims and Mark Kenney combined for 32 points for St. George’s.
Deer Park 59, Vashon Island 27: Uconn Peone’s 20 points and 13 assists lifted the Stags (4-4) over the Pirates in Yakima. DP’s Colton Mead added 14 points and Blake Starbuck had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
Ridgefield 76, Colfax 51: Stan Landerholm and Michael Potter combined for 44 points to carry the Spudders past the Bulldogs (6-2). Ridgefield shot 62 percent from the floor while Colfax hit 36 percent. Kyle Johnson and Justin Berarducci scored 17 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
Colville 40, Connell 30: Matt Hubbard and Alex Pond combined for 28 points to lift the Indians (6-5) past the Eagles. Hubbard led Colville with 10 rebounds. Matt Hadley scored a game-high 19 points for Connell.
Columbia (Burbank) 53, Riverside 50: Nathan Roberts’ 20 points helped the Coyotes hold off the Rams (4-6). Riverside’s Jordan Wood and Josh Davis teamed for 23 points.
Dayton 66, LaCrosse-Washtucna 30: Garett Turner scored 18 points and the host Bulldogs eased past the Tigercats (3-5) in the championship game.
Tonasket 59, Republic 26: Tonasket strolled past the Tigers (1-9) in the game for third place.
Colfax 37, Woodland 29: Hannah Harazin scored 13 points and Rachel Robinson had 14 rebounds to guide a 50-36 edge as the Bulldogs (4-3) held off the Beavers in Yakima. Colfax limited Woodland to three second-half field goals.
Connell 40, Colville 37 (OT): Kody Easterday scored 12 points and the Eagles topped the Indians (4-5) in overtime. Taryn Main’s game-high 13 points led Colville.
Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 46, Zillah 41: Jenna Widman had 15 rebounds and 10 points as the Eagles (5-5) came back from a third-quarter deficit to stop the Leopards. Jocelyn Cook-Cox added nine rebounds for Lakeside.
Riverside 38, Vashon Island 24: Courtney Davis finished with a game-high 16 points to guide the Rams (5-5) past the Pirates.
La Salle 53, Deer Park 36: The Lightning toppled the Stags (3-4).
Oak Harbor tournament
Lewiston 73, Oak Harbor 29: Senior Tisha Phillips scored 20 points as the Bengals (9-1) cruised past the host Wildcats. Paige Wells and Chelsea Waters added 10 points apiece for the Bengals, who outscored Oak Harbor 14-1 at the free-throw line. Annie Leete hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points for the Wildcats.
Republic 40, Tonasket 39 (OT): Brianna Brown scored four of her team-high 14 points in overtime and finished with 10 rebounds to give the Tigers (8-2) the victory. Alyssa Stout added 16 rebounds, and Kacie Lane had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Republic. Bayle Tyus scored 19 for Tonasket.
Dayton 51, LaCrosse-Washtucna 18: Shelby Smith scored 11 points as the host Bulldogs defeated the Tigercats (2-6) in the third-place game.
Lake Stevens 57, Lewis and Clark 36: Katie Goddard and Brooke Pahukoa combined for 30 points as the Vikings stormed past the Tigers (3-4).
St. George’s 39, Chewelah 36: Coral Rankin hit two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Dragons (3-4) hold off the visiting Cougars (2-8). Chewelah’s Katelyn Garner scored 15 points.
