Signed The Seattle Mariners have signed right-handed pitcher Jamey Wright as a minor league free agent and invited him to spring training. The 36-year-old Wright appeared in 28 games last season with the Mariners. He was 0-1 with a 3.41 ERA with Seattle and also appeared in 18 games with Cleveland early in the year.

Agreed Pitcher R.A. Dickey has agreed to a $7.8 million, two-year contract with the New York Mets and outfielder Angel Pagan has agreed to a $3.5 million, one-year deal. Dickey gets a $1 million signing bonus, $2.25 million this year and $4.25 million in 2012.

• Right-hander Edinson Volquez and the Cincinnati Reds have agreed to a one-year contract worth $1,625,000. The deal, which avoided salary arbitration, includes $50,000 in performance bonuses: $25,000 each for 24 and 28 starts.

• Free agent pitcher Freddy Garcia and the New York Yankees have reached agreement on a minor league deal, a person familiar with the negotiations told the Associated Press. The contract could be worth up to $5.1 million, and it also lets Garcia opt out by March 29.

Extended Reliever Rafael Betancourt has become the fifth non-free agent to get a multiyear contract from the Colorado Rockies this offseason. The right-hander, already slated to make $3,775,000 this year, will earn $4 million in 2012 under a new contract agreed to with the Rockies. The deal includes a $4.25 million mutual option in 2013 with a $250,000 buyout.

Returning Former Mets’ hurler Frank Viola is returning to professional baseball, agreeing to become the pitching coach for the New York Mets’ Class A Brooklyn Cyclones. The 1988 A.L. Cy Young Award winner, now 50, pitched for the Mets from 1989-91 and retired as a player in 1996.

Cleared Nashville forward Jordin Tootoo has been cleared by the NHL and the NHL Players’ Association to return to practice with the Predators. The league and players’ association announced that Tootoo has entered the follow-up care phase of the joint substance abuse and behavioral health program. But Tootoo has not been cleared to play in games or travel on road trips.
