West Valley defeats Medical Lake to tie for second place in GNL

Shaniqua Nilles notched 18 points and 16 rebounds and West Valley (15-4, 8-3) spoiled senior night for host Medical Lake (5-15, 1-11), beating the Cardinals 61-33 in Great Northern League action Tuesday.

Amelia Cook had 15 to lead the Cardinals.

Hannah Love added 10 points for the Eagles, who outscored Medical Lake 48-22 in the first three quarters.

With the win, WV moves into a tie for second place with Pullman. The teams are set to meet Thursday at WV.

Cheney 57, East Valley 56: Laikyn Brophy notched 25 points, hitting 3 of 6 attempts from the 3-point line, and the Blackhawks (8-10, 4-7) held off the host Knights (11-8, 7-4), dropping EV to fourth in the GNL standings. Alex Rankin had 13 points to lead the Knights, hitting a 3-pointer in the final seconds to pull them within one.

Clarkston 53, Deer Park 38: Jamie Weisner poured in 26 points and added 12 rebounds, K.C. McConnell chipped in 13 points and 11 boards and the host Bantams (14-5, 9-2) maintained their one-game lead in the GNL with their win over the Stags (5-14, 1-10). With a win in their season finale Thursday against East Valley, the Bantams will clinch the top spot.

Northeast A

Freeman 39, Lakeside 31: MacKenzie Taylor tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds on senior night and the Scotties (19-1) knocked off the visiting Eagles (13-7, 6-4), holding them to two points in the third quarter. Taylor was the lone senior honored for the Scotties. Lexie Zappone had 10 points in the loss for the Eagles.

Colville 69, Chewelah 28: Tanna Morris and Ashley Knight combined for 29 points and the visiting Indians (16-4, 7-3) held the Cougars (4-16, 1-9) to two points in the second quarter, taking a 27-point halftime lead. Jordan Brons added 10 points for the Indians, who clinched second place in the NEA to earn a first-round bye at the NEA district tournament.

Newport 55, Riverside 34: Taylor Lewis tallied 20 points and six steals and Sarah Morse added 10 rebounds as the Grizzlies (14-6, 5-5) secured fourth place in the NEA and a home playoff game with their win over the visiting Rams (4-15, 1-9). Miranda Frederick scored 14 for the Grizzlies, while Courtney Davis had 12 to lead the Rams.

The Grizzlies will play Riverside in the first round of the District 7 1A tournament at 6 p.m. Friday. In the other district game, Lakeside will host Chewelah.

Bi-County 2B

Northwest Christian 48, Davenport 35: Alyssa Yates tallied 18 points and 18 rebounds and combined with Danne Dami to hit three 3-pointers in the opening quarter for the visiting Crusaders (10-8, 8-6) to spark a 15-7 run against the Gorillas (6-11, 5-8). Miranda Mielke finished with 16 points to lead Davenport.

Reardan 65, Liberty 38: Katy Burge led all scorers with 14 points and Liz Flowers and Tori Wynecoop each scored 12 points as the Indians (16-2, 14-0) cruised to the win over the host Lancers (6-11, 5-8). Calley Janson had 10 points for the Lancers, scoring six in the opening quarter.

Colfax 46, St. George’s 25: Shaina Simonson tallied 11 points and the visiting Bulldogs (11-7, 11-3) forced 41 turnovers by the Dragons (2-15, 2-11), cruising to the win. Nicole Sheer added eight points for the Bulldogs, who attempted 76 shots.

Bi-County 1B

Odessa-Harrington 74, St. Michael’s 20: Lacey Hirst scored a game-high 24 points and Lexie Watkins added seven points, 11 rebounds and five steals as the host Titans (11-9, 6-2) secured second place in league play with their win over the Warriors (1-14, 0-6).

Valley Christian 34, Wilbur-Creston 25 (OT): Lindy Riggan scored a game-high 22 points, adding eight rebounds and six steals, and the host Panthers (8-10, 3-4) blanked the Wildcats (7-11, 2-5) 9-0 in the overtime period for the win.

Panorama tourney

Columbia 62, Cusick 43: Lindsay Loe notched 14 points and 10 rebounds, Krista Colvin scored 14 points to go with eight steals and five rebounds and the host Lions (20-1) defeated the Panthers (6-11) in Hunters.

Andrea Heinen led the Panthers in the second half, scoring all 18 of her points after the break.

Wellpinit 42, Selkirk 40: Kelsey Brown finished with 11 points and Niquie Ali and Lauren Flett each added 10 points as the Redskins (13-8) took a five-point lead into the fourth quarter and held off the host Rangers (15-6) for the win in Ione.

The Redskins play Columbia at 5 p.m. Friday in Kettle Falls to determine the No. 1 and No. 2 seed for the district tournament.

Selkirk will play Cusick at 3:30 p.m. for the third and fourth seeds.

IEL 5A

Lewiston 69, Post Falls 44: Tisha Phillips hit three 3-pointers and finished with 21 points and the visiting Bengals (16-3, 5-1) scored at least 21 points in each of the first three quarters against the Trojans (8-12, 0-6), taking a 33-point lead into the final quarter.

The Bengals shot 68 percent from the floor.
