West Valley on verge of GNL title

 
Lakeside win creates 4-way tie in NEA

 Ryan Gunderson tallied 22 of his 26 points in the second half, adding 14 rebounds, and Kyle Powell hit a 3-pointer with 30.6 seconds remaining to put the game out reach, giving visiting Lakeside (13-7, 9-1) an 81-74 victory over Freeman (9-11, 5-5) in Northeast A League action Tuesday.

 Cody Unfred led the Scotties with 32 points and Ben Kuiper added 22.

 With the loss, the Scotties moved into a four-way tie for second place with Colville, Riverside and Newport. All four teams will play Thursday in Chewelah to determine seeding for the NEA district tournament. They will play one-quarter games to find the No. 2-No. 5 seeds.

Brady Bagby notched 16 points, Kyle Wagner added 14 points and visiting West Valley (17-2, 10-1) moved one step closer to a Great Northern League title, beating Medical Lake (8-12, 2-10) 65-36 Tuesday.

The Eagles finished with four players in double figures and used 27 third-quarter points to outscore the Cardinals 39-13 in the second half. Kevin Fisher tallied 17 points in the loss for the Cardinals.

Clarkston 85, Deer Park 24: Chanse Brownell finished with 17 points, Trey Sobotta added 14 points and the host Bantams (16-3, 9-2) hit 13 of 25 3-point attempts to knock off the Stags (4-15, 0-11). The Bantams held DP leading scorer Zach Mohr to just eight points, and held the Stags scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Cheney 57, East Valley 46: Shakur Smith tallied 15 of his 19 points in the second half, hitting 11 of 13 free-throw attempts, and the visiting Blackhawks (12-7, 6-5) outscored the Knights (11-8, 4-7) 36-17 after the break to overcome an eight-point halftime lead. For the game, the Blackhawks outshot the Knights 31-15 from the free-throw line.

Northeast A

Colville 53, Chewelah 38: Matt Hubbard scored eight of his 19 points in the second quarter, helping the visiting Indians (11-9, 5-5) take a nine-point halftime lead against the Cougars (5-15, 1-9).

Riverside 49, Newport 41: Jordan Wood went 6 of 11 from the field and hit four 3-pointers, scoring 24 points to lead the Rams (9-10, 5-5) to a road win over the Grizzlies (11-9, 5-5).

Bi-County 2B

Colfax 51, St. George’s 31: Brandon Gfeller hit 4 of 10 from 3-point range and finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds and the Bulldogs (16-2, 13-1) opened a 14-point halftime lead and cruised in the second half against the host Dragons (8-9, 7-6). Dexter Sienko tallied eight points and 11 rebounds for the Dragons.

Northwest Christian 76, Davenport 46: Cole Ramey scored 14 of his game-high 31 points in the third quarter as the visiting Crusaders (16-2, 13-1) outscored the Gorillas (9-8, 6-7). Kwinn Hanson added 20 points for the Crusaders, while Josh Likkel had 16 points to pace the Gorillas.

Liberty 52, Reardan 50: Ross Collins tallied 15 of his 25 points in the second half and Terry Viele hit a pair of free throws in the final minute to lift the Lancers (5-12, 4-9) to a win over the visiting Indians (8-10, 7-7).

Bi-County 1B

Valley Christian 49, Wilbur-Creston 47: Kolby Blew hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 50 seconds remaining and then stole the ball with less than 5 seconds left to secure the win for the host Panthers (14-5, 6-1) against the Wildcats (10-8, 2-5).

Craver Small had 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Panthers. Josh Tonasket scored 12 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter for the Wildcats.

Odessa-Harrington 84, St. Michael’s 52: Stetson Sanford finished with 17 points to lead the host Titans (5-14, 2-6) to a win over the Warriors (10-8, 1-5).

Central Wash 2B

Lake Roosevelt 73, Brewster 50: Ty Egbert and Jesse Adkins each scored 12 points and Brandon Kohler added 10 points and seven assists as the Raiders (14-3, 9-0) knocked off the visiting Bears (8-9, 6-4) at Coulee Dam.
