Kidd 3-pointer lifts Mavs to win over Celts

NBA: Jason Kidd made a 3-pointer with 2.5 seconds left, putting the Dallas Mavericks ahead as they beat the host Boston Celtics 101-97 on Friday night for their seventh straight win.

The Celtics led 97-91, but the Mavericks scored the final 10 points. After Kevin Garnett missed an 18-foot jumper with 15 seconds to go, the Mavericks tried to go inside, but Dirk Nowitzki had trouble handling the ball and threw it to Kidd, who made his second 3-pointer of the game.

Nowitzki led Dallas with 29 points while Ray Allen topped Boston with 24.

• Cavs drop 23rd straight, tie single-season record: The Cleveland Cavaliers matched the longest single-season losing streak in NBA history, dropping their 23rd straight with a 112-105 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in Memphis, Tenn.

The Cavaliers matched the 1995-96 Grizzlies, then in Vancouver, and the 1997-98 Denver Nuggets. The Cavs can set the record when they host the Trail Blazers tonight.

• Horford’s FTs lift Hawks past Clippers: Al Horford made two free throws with 0.6 seconds remaining following a flagrant foul by Blake Griffin, giving the Atlanta Hawks a 101-100 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Clippers.

Jamal Crawford had 34 points, 16 in the third quarter. Baron Davis had 22 points and 13 assists for Los Angeles.

• Green, Ibaka help Thunder get past Suns: Jeff Green scored 28 points and Serge Ibaka added 18 on 9-of-10 shooting to help the Oklahoma City Thunder escape with a 111-107 victory over the host Phoenix Suns. Vince Carter scored 33 to lead Phoenix.

Oklahoma City outscored the Suns 12-5 over the last 21/2 minutes.

• Williams’ return sparks Jazz past Nuggets: Deron Williams’ return to the lineup helped the Utah Jazz snap out of their funk with a 113-106 win over the host Denver Nuggets.

The Jazz had lost eight of 10 and had been without Williams (26 points, 12 assists) for the last four games after he strained a tendon in his right wrist against San Antonio on Jan. 26.

• Granger leads Pacers past Trail Blazers: Danny Granger scored 25 points to help the Indiana Pacers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 100-87 in Indianapolis and improve to 3-0 under interim coach Frank Vogel.

Rudy Fernandez scored 19 points for the Trail Blazers, who have lost four of five.

• Love added to West All-Star roster as replacement: Kevin Love will be going to the NBA All-Star game. The NBA’s leading rebounder was added to the Western Conference roster by Commissioner David Stern as the injury replacement for Houston center Yao Ming.

Canucks rally in 3rd to beat Blackhawks

NHL: Daniel Sedin scored with 4 minutes left to take over the NHL scoring lead and lift the Vancouver Canucks to their fifth straight win with a wild 4-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Dave Bolland put Chicago ahead 7:47 into the third when rookie defenseman Chris Tanev batted a shot that was going wide into his own net.

• Pens lose Malkin but rally for win over Sabres: Dustin Jeffrey scored the first of three Pittsburgh goals in a second-period span of 3:14 and the Penguins rallied for a 3-2 win over the visiting Buffalo Sabres despite again losing star center Evgeni Malkin to injury.

Malkin was knocked out of the game during the first shift of the second period with a lower-body injury after a collision with Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers.

• Olesz scores in OT to lift Panthers past Devils: Rostislav Olesz scored 2 minutes into overtime to give the Florida Panthers a 4-3 win over the New Jersey Devils in Newark, N.J.

Olesz got the winner on a sharp-angle shot from the bottom of the right circle that slipped past Devils goaltender Johan Hedberg. Florida cooled off the Devils, who are 8-2-1 in their last 11.

• Forsberg will not play against Ducks: Peter Forsberg, who is considering a comeback with the Colorado Avalanche, ruled out any chance of his being back as soon as when Colorado hosts the Anaheim Ducks today.

He has been practicing with the team on a limited basis. Forsberg last played for the Avalanche during the 2007-08 season. But he was limited by a groin injury.

Brissett picks Florida against mom’s wishes

Miscellany: Highly recruited quarterback Jacoby Brissett will enroll at Florida this fall.

Brissett was one of the top recruits who remained unsigned on Wednesday, when the vast majority of top prep players inked their national letters of intent.

Brissett told his mother of the decision by text message, then publicly announced it at his Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., high school’s basketball game. Ellicia Brown said she will continue lobbying her son to sign with Miami instead.

• North Carolina’s Drew leaves Heels: Larry Drew II stunned North Carolina coach Roy Williams and his Tar Heels teammates with his abrupt departure from the program.

In a statement issued by the school, the junior point guard said he was leaving because “it’s in my best interest to continue my education and basketball career elsewhere.”

The announcement came just four games after Drew lost his starting job to freshman Kendall Marshall.

• Schild wins WCup slalom; Vonn out with concussion: Marlies Schild of Austria won a World Cup slalom for her fifth victory of the season, while Lindsey Vonn missed the race in Zwiesel, Germany, because of a concussion

Schild finished in 1 minute, 55.19 seconds. Veronika Zuzulova of Slovakia was second in 1:55.87 for her best career finish. Tanja Poutiainen of Finland was third. Overall leader Maria Riesch of Germany fell in the first heat.

Gainey now leads frosty Phoenix Open

Golf: Tommy Gainey and Mark Wilson topped the Phoenix Open leaderboard, reaching 11 under before second-round play was suspended because of darkness in the frost-delayed tournament that will finish Monday in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Gainey played nine holes in the second round, and Wilson finished 14.

Alex Prugh (Ferris, UW) did not play Friday. He was able to finish his round of 1-under 70 Thursday before play was suspended.

• Westwood misses cut, Brier leads in Qatar: Lee Westwood shot a 3-over 75 to miss the cut at the Qatar Masters in Doha, Qatar, opening the door for Martin Kaymer to replace him at the top of the rankings.

Austria’s Markus Brier had a 66 to take a one-shot lead over South Africa’s Darren Fichardt (68) after the second round.
