The Islanders said the punch during the rare goalie fight caused multiple facial fractures.

Suspended Mississippi State suspended basketball player Ravern Johnson for today’s game against LSU because of “inappropriate tweets” following the team’s 75-61 loss to Alabama on Wednesday. Paille was ejected in the second period of Boston’s 6-3 win Thursday when he was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct. Sawada had lost control of the puck, and as the forward leaned down to gain control, Paille connected with a blindside hit to Sawada’s shoulder and head.

Fined New Jersey Nets coach Avery Johnson was fined $25,000 for improper conduct toward an official during a game against the Philadelphia 76ers. Johnson was ejected with 7:47 left in the third quarter Wednesday night after arguing with official Brent Barnaky.
