In brief: CV school board plans meeting retreat today, Friday

SPOKANE VALLEY – The Central Valley School District Board of Directors will hold a special meeting and retreat today at 5 p.m. and Friday at 3 p.m. in the district office, 19307 E. Cataldo Ave.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss district topics.

TAC presents musical ‘Anne of Green Gables’

SPOKANE VALLEY – Beginning Feb. 18, Theater Arts for Children will present the musical “Anne of Green Gables,” at the Spokane Valley Partners Building, 10814 E. Broadway Ave., at 7 p.m.

The performance is the story of Anne Shirley and her “best friend for life,” Diana Barry, as they travel from childhood to maturity.

Other shows will be Feb. 19, 26 and March 5 at 4 and 7 p.m.; Feb. 20, 27 and March 6 at 2 p.m.; Feb. 25 and March 4 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $10 per person for ages 13 and older and $5 for children 12 and younger. Tickets may be purchased at the door.

Sweetheart Dance to benefit Boys and Girls Club

SPOKANE VALLEY – CenterPlace, 2424 N. Discovery Place, will host a Sweetheart Dance on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Spokane.

The evening will include complimentary wine tasting, dancing with DJ Jeff Keen, a dessert bar from Red Rock Catering, roses for the ladies and a comedian.

Food distribution Friday for anyone in need

Spokane Valley – A Second Harvest mobile food distribution is planned for Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at Millwood Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road. The distribution is held on the second Friday of each month and is open to anyone who needs food. Up to 200 families typically receive assistance at the church during the monthly event, which has been offered for the past year.

The distribution does not count as the one food bank visit families are allowed per month. Those needing assistance are asked to bring boxes or bags to carry the food in. No appointment or documentation is necessary.
