Eagles win 1A district

Ryan Gunderson collected his 17th double double of the season, scoring 10 points to go with 12 rebounds, and Kyle Powell sparked a strong second half for Lakeside (15-7), finishing with 10 points, as the Eagles defeated Colville (12-10) 39-31 in the District 7 1A championship game Friday at Mead.

Both teams struggled shooting the ball as the Eagles hit 26.2 percent fom the floor and the Indians just 16.4. But Lakeside rallied in the second half, outscoring the Indians 14-3 in the third quarter to gain control.

Lakeside is the No. 1 seed to the Bi-District tournament and Colville the No. 2 seed.

Chewelah 70, Newport 62: Andrew Pugh notched 13 points and 12 rebounds and the Cougars (7-16) had all five starters finish in double figures, eliminating the Grizzlies (12-11) from the postseason at Mead.

Nate Biancardi, Nick Naccarato and Derek Smith all scored 14 points for the Cougars, who advance to the Bi-District tournament Tuesday in Moses Lake.

Intermountain

Bonners Ferry 49, Timberlake 45: Alex Mendez paced the Badgers (3-12, 2-4) with 11 points and Andre Zarate added eight points as BF used a 16-9 run in the third quarter to erase a six-point halftime deficit and knock off the host Tigers (2-16, 0-7) in Spirit Lake. Brian Cronnelly and Cooper Simpson combined for 36 points to lead the Tigers.

North Star

Wallace 71, Lakeside 58: Stephan Heinig scored 19 points to go with 10 rebounds and the Miners (7-10, 5-2) held off a late run by the visiting Knights (10-6, 6-1) to pull within one game of first place in the NSL standings. The Knights, led by 13 points from Andrew Boyd, pulled within four with three minutes remaining, but were outscored 16-7 the rest of the way. Tony Branz added 18 points and Tyler Beard scored 17 for the Miners.

Nonleague

Coeur d’Alene Charter 74, Clark Fork 48: Greg Roman scored 14 of his 33 points in the first quarter and added 14 rebounds for the host Panthers (15-3), who took a 22-point halftime lead, cruising to a win over the Wampus Cats (4-9). Nate Nesbitt led the Wampus Cats with 19.

CdA Charter will play Grangeville in the first round of the district tournament Wednesday at Lapwai at 7 p.m.
