Freeman girls win District 7 1A title

Alyssa Maine hit 3 of 3 from 3-point range and scored 14 points and MacKenzie Taylor added 12 points and 10 rebounds as Freeman (21-1) earned the District 7 1A tournament championship with a 37-30 victory over Lakeside (15-8) Friday at Mead High School.

The Scotties took a 12-point halftime lead, outscoring the Eagles 12-3 in the second period, and never looked back, earning the district’s No. 1 seed and a first round bye in the Bi-District tournament.

Leading the Eagles were Lexie Zappone and Jenna Widman, who scored nine and seven points, respectively.

Lakeside advances as the No. 2 seed to the tournament in Moses Lake on Tuesday and will play the winner of today’s game between Chelan and Cashmere.

Colville 41, Newport 38: Ashley Knight poured in 20 points to go with her 10 rebounds and the Indians (17-5) survived a 13-of-29 night from the free-throw line to edge the Grizzlies (15-8) at Mead. The Grizzlies were led by Miranda Frederick’s 12 points, while Tasha Luu added seven for the Indians.

The win by Colville knocked the Grizzlies out of postseason play, while the Indians advanced to the Bi-District tournament Tuesday in Moses Lake against either Okanogan or Cascade.

District 9 1B

Pomeroy 49, St. John-Endicott 47: After trailing 19-8 at the end of the first quarter, the Pirates (16-3), led by 12 points apiece from Melissa Bartlow and HayLee Koller, outscored the Eagles (17-4) 28-17 over the next two quarters to take the lead for good in Pomeroy.

Ali Winters scored a game-high 24 points for the Eagles. Karlie Martin and Kindsey Bolt added 11 points each for the Pirates, who had four players finish in double figures.

The Pirates will play in the district title game against Colton, while SJE must play Tekoa-Oakesdale in a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Colfax. The winner will advance to the third-place game Feb. 19.

Idaho 1A Division II

Clark Fork (12-7) defeated visiting Mullan (4-12) in the championship game to advance to the state tournament. No other information was available.
