Area girls basketball: Highlanders handle NC
Aleisha Hathaway scored a game-high 20 points, Kendra Knutsen added 12 points and Shadle Park (15-6) went 8 of 8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to ice a 63-50 win over visiting North Central (13-8) in the District 8 3A tournament Saturday.
Riley Holsinger and Tara Van Weerdhuizen combined for 29 points for the Indians, who committed 18 turnovers in the game, while the Highlanders only had five. NC will host University Tuesday at 5:30 p.m in a loser-out game. The winner will play the Highlanders for the district title.
University 47, Mt. Spokane 46: Hallie Gennett tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds and hit the winning shot with 37 seconds remaining to lift the Titans (8-13) to a win, eliminating the Wildcats (7-14) at U-Hi.
Amy Thorton added 16 points for the Titans, who outscored the Wildcats 27-24 in the second half. Kennadie Clute scored 15 points to go with eight boards for Mt. Spokane.
Idaho 3A District I
Priest River (13-10) knocked off visiting Bonners Ferry (5-17) to advance to the state tournament. No other details were provided.
District 7 2B
Kettle Falls 56, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 31: Samantha Charlton poured in 22 points, Nikka Yankus added eight blocks and seven rebounds to her seven points and the Bulldogs (14-7) outscored the Broncos (9-12) 14-1 in the third quarter to put the game away at Mead. The Bulldogs will play Colfax at Mt. Spokane at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Colfax 53, Republic 34: Amelie Bruya led all scorers with 17 points and the Bulldogs (14-7) used a 14-3 run in the third quarter to build a 22-point lead against the Tigers (10-11) at Mead. Rachel Robinson added 12 points for the Bulldogs.
The Tigers were led by Alyssa Stout’s 12 points. They will play LRS at Northwest Christian at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
Reardan 57, St. George’s 20: Liz Flowers notched a game-high 15 points and Kelsey Moos chipped in with 12 points nine rebounds and four assists as the Indians (19-2) cruised to victory, outscoring the Dragons (4-18) 35-5 in the second half at Mt. Spokane.
The Indians will play Northwest Christian at Mt. Spokane at 5 p.m. Monday. The Dragons will play Davenport at 3:30 p.m.
Northwest Christian 51, Davenport 39: Hannah Dietzen and Alyssa Yates combined for 25 points and 14 rebounds and the Crusaders (13-8) knocked off the Gorillas (8-13) at Mt. Spokane. Miranda Mielke had 25 points in the loss for the Gorillas, who were outscored 23-12 combined in the second and third quarters.
District 7 1B
Almira/Coulee-Hartline 55, Wellpinit 33: Madeline Isaak notched 20 points, Nikki Osborne added 17 points and the Warriors (20-2) used a 15-5 run in the fourth quarter to put the Redskins (14-10) away in Deer Park. The Warriors will play Columbia in the district championship game in DP at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Columbia 52, Selkirk 25: Krista Colvin and Makenzie Parrow combined for 23 points and 12 rebounds and the Lions (23-1) advanced to the district title game with a win over the Rangers (17-7) in DP. The Lions forced 24 turnovers in the game, outscoring the Rangers 27-11 in the second half. Selkirk will play Cusick at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Cusick 44, Wilbur-Creston 29: Andrea Heinen tallied 19 points with eight rebounds and the Panthers (7-13) outrebounded the Wildcats (8-13) 45-36 in the game, holding them to 11-of-61 shooting from the field in Deer Park.

Prairie 42, Lakeside 25: The Pirates (14-10) eliminated the Knights (15-5) from the postseason with their win in their state play-in game in St. Maries.
