Area roundup: UW women give Stanford a test before falling

Nnemkadi Ogwumike had 22 points and nine rebounds and No. 3 Stanford (22-2, 13-0) overcame one of its worst performances of the season to beat Pac-10 foe Washington 62-52 for a 16th straight win Saturday in Stanford, Calif.

Kristi Kingma scored 22 points for Washington (10-12, 5-8), keeping her team close in the second half with clutch 3-pointers. Her 3 with 6:09 left trimmed Stanford’s lead to 47-45.

Washington got five 3-pointers from Kingma, one shy of equaling her career high, after being blown out by the Cardinal 80-51 in Seattle on Jan. 14.

Washington State 68, California 66: Jazmine Perkins and April Cook each tallied 14 points and the Cougars (8-17, 6-7) rallied twice from a nine-point second half deficit to beat the Golden Bears (14-10, 6-7) in Pac-10 play in Berkeley, Calif.

With the game tied at 66, Perkins hit 2 of 4 free throws in the final 33.8 seconds to give the Cougars the lead and Cal could not match, missing a jumper with .8 seconds left.

Idaho 61, Boise State 46: Derisa Taleni tallied 17 points and the Vandals (13-10, 6-5 WAC) completed their first regular-season sweep over the Broncos (11-14, 2-9) since the 1996-97 season with their comeback win in Boise.

The Vandals trailed 24-14 before going on a 15-1 run that held BSU scoreless for nearly 10 minutes that lasted until the 17:10 mark in the second half. The Vandals took a 29-25 lead and did not trail again, getting 15 points and eight rebounds from Yinka Olorunnife.

Eastern Washington 73, Weber State 67: Tatjana Sparavalo went 7 of 11 from the floor and scored a game-high 22 points as the Eagles (9-14, 5-5) pulled back to .500 in Big Sky Conference play with their win over the Wildcats (5-17, 1-9) in Ogden, Utah.

Chene Cooper added 20 poinst and four assists for the Eagles, who shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half to outscore the Wildcats 44-37 after the break.

George Fox 78, Whitworth 71 (OT): Hannah Munger and Keisha Gordon combined for 59 points and 23 rebounds, helping the visiting Bruins (18-5, 12-2) maintain a share of the Northwest Conference lead with their win over the Pirates (11-12, 7-7) in Spokane.

Lexi Belcher led the Pirates with 18 points and hit a 3-pointer to open the overtime period, but they were outscored 12-2 the rest of the way in the loss.

Taylor Taylor added 16 points for Whitworth, which now sits in a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NWC tournament.

North Idaho 74, Snow 39: After suffering their first loss in 13 games, Tugce Canitez and the Cardinals (23-3, 9-3) rebounded to shoot 45.9 percent from floor, routing the Badgers (15-10, 5-7) in SWAC action in Ephraim, Utah.

Canitez led the charge for NIC, scoring 13 points and adding eight rebounds, while the defense held Snow to just 14-of-46 shooting, including 2 of 16 from 3-point range.

CC Spokane 75, Treasure Valley CC 68: Korrie Bourn notched 28 points to go with seven rebounds and seven assists and the Sasquatch (20-3, 10-1) took a 16-point second-half lead and held on to beat the Chukars (4-17, 1-10) in Ontario, Ore.

CCS started out hot from the field, shooting 59.3 percent in the first half as Brooke Randall added 22 points and six boards for the Sasquatch.
