EWU grad student creates winning Google TV promo

It’s no secret that the media world is changing fast. One of the latest inventions is Google TV, a special television set that lets viewers watch TV and go online at the same time. Think of it as a combination of a computer and a television.

Last year, YouTube, Google and Sony got together and gave away Google TVs to the creators of the 100 best YouTube spots explaining why people should be pumped up about Google TV.

And one of those Google TV sets landed on the front porch of Holly Hill’s home on the South Hill.

“We got it three weeks ago, so yes, we had it for the Super Bowl,” said Hill, 21, and a graduate student at Eastern Washington University. “I was so incredibly excited that I won.”

Hill, who has a lot of short videos posted on YouTube, heard about the contest from a friend on, you guessed it, YouTube.

“I came up with the idea for the spot in under a minute,” said Hill. “I did it and left it there and thought that was fun.”

Hill plays herself as well as a friend in the YouTube spot. The two are having a conversation about why Google TV is cool and how nice it would be to have one.

“It’s like Google and TV made a baby and it just exploded in awesomeness,” goes part of the dialogue.

Hill said that the TV was very easy to set up.

“It took us 20 minutes at the most. It’s HDTV and it’s very nice,” said Hill.

She will graduate in June with a communications degree from EWU, with a focus on gaming and technology.

“We pushed our old TV out to the side, it was a hand-me-down from my uncle,” said Hill. “So, yes, this was very much needed and a nice surprise.”
