Roundup: Northport boys qualify for first state tournament since 1977

David Higgins had 16 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday as the Northport boys qualified for their first state tournament since 1977 with a 60-42 win over Wilbur-Creston at the District 7 1B tournament at Deer Park.

Michal Marko added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Philip Johnson had 12 rebounds and six assists for the Mustangs (13-10), who meet Cusick at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at DP for state seeding. The Wildcats (12-10) were eliminated.

Cusick 73, Odessa-Harrington 51: At DP, Tyler Edwards scored 30 points as the Panthers (17-8) qualified for state and eliminated the Titans (8-16).

District 7 2B

St. George’s 55, Reardan 52: Dexter Sienko scored 10 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter, including a shot with 3.5 seconds left for a two-point lead, and added 10 rebounds as the Dragons (12-11) eliminated the Indians (11-12) at Mt. Spokane. St. George’s will play Springdale at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane in a winner-to-state, loser-put game.

Springdale 78, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 57: Uconn Peone and Rodney Abrahamson combined for 54 points and 18-for-18 shooting from the line as the Chargers (10-13) eliminated the Broncos (11-12) at Mead High.

District 6 2B

Lake Roosevelt 50, Riverside Christian 36: Ty Egbert totaled 13 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots as the Raiders (19-3) qualified for state by defeating the Crusaders at Wenatchee. LR will play for state seeding at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Wenatchee against either Brewster or White Swan.

District 7 2B

Kettle Falls 49, St. George’s 30: Samantha Charlton totaled 20 points, four steals and three assists as the Bulldogs (15-8) eliminated the Dragons (5-19) at Mt. Spokane. KF will play Northwest Christian at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Spokane in a winner-to-state, loser-out game.

Northwest Christian 44, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 32: Hannah Dietzen had 13 points and 12 rebounds as the Crusaders (14-9) eliminated the Broncos (10-13) at Mead High.

District 7 1B

Selkirk 55, Cusick 27: At Deer Park, Haley Adams and Courtney Holter combined for 31 points as the Rangers (19-7) qualified for state and eliminated the Panthers (7-15). Selkirk will play Odessa-Harrington at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at DP for the third and fourth seeds to state.

Odessa-Harrington 54, Wellpinit 47: At DP, Justyne Talkington and Jessie Whitaker combined for 25 points as the Titans (13-10) overcame a 24-12 deficit to qualify for state and eliminate the Redskins (14-11), who had three players foul out.

District 6 2B

White Swan 43, Lake Roosevelt 41: Amber Jones scored 16 points, including two free throws with 1.7 seconds left, as the Cougars qualified for state by defeating the Raiders (14-8) at Wenatchee. LR will play Riverside Christian at 4 p.m. Friday at Wenatchee in a winner-to-state, loser-out game.
