Sun this weekend; colder next week

If this morning’s weather seems cold, you might not want to consider what the weatherman has in store for next week. Decreasing clouds today and highs in the upper 30s should give way to mostly sunny skies over the weekend. Coeur d’Alene will continue to have a 20 percent chance of snow showers today. The trouble arrives next week when an arctic cold front pushes into the region, pushing temperatures into the teens at night and 20s during the day. Snow is likely to move across the region starting Tuesday and be followed by an arctic front on Wednesday. The National Weather Service today issued a hazardous weather outlook for the wintry weather even though it is still four to five days from now. Forecaster said cold temperatures next week could reach 20 degrees below normal for late February. The normal temperature in Spokane for today is 40 for a high and 26 for a low. On Thursday, a band of strong snow showers laid down a layer of fresh snow at lower elevations in North Idaho. Some of the snow extended into the eastern portions of Spokane Valley and into the city of Spokane. Mountain areas continued to receive fresh snow. Temperatures over the weekend should reach highs in the upper 30s with lows near 20. At 7 a.m. today, it was 25 degrees at Spokane International Airport, 26 at Felts Field, 27 at Coeur d’Alene, 23 at Deer Park and 27 at Pullman.
