CdA, Lewiston in finale

Jake Matheson scored 18 points, Chad Chalich added 13 points, including 9 of 10 from the free-throw line, as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings (14-7) held off a late run to beat the Lake City Timberwolves 66-52 Friday in Post Falls, advancing to the 5A Region I title game.

CdA opened a 16-3 lead, holding LC (15-6) to 1-of-15 shooting early.

Mark Smyly led the way for the Timberwolves, scoring 15 points, and Colton Carlson chipped in 12 points, hitting three 3-pointers.

CdA will host Lewiston at 7 p.m. Tuesday with a win moving the Vikings into the state tournament. LC will play at Post Falls in an elimination game.

Lewiston 72, Post Falls 64: Matt Kalbfleish led all scorers with 25 points and Randon Fuentes chipped in 17 points as the Bengals (11-9) upset the host Trojans (17-4) to advance to the regional title. PF trailed Lewiston by nine at the break.

Connor Hill scored 21 points and Marcus Colbert added 20 for the Trojans, who will play host to Lake City Tuesday.

Subregional 2A

West Valley 58, East Valley (Yakima) 46: Brady Bagby scored 14 of his 26 points in the second quarter and, after trailing 8-0, the Eagles (20-3) went on a 27-9 run to close the first half, beating the Red Devils (11-11) at Central Washington. WV will play Grandview at 5 p.m. today.

Clarkston 65, Ellensburg 50: Tommy Sperry and Trey Sobotta combined for 42 points and the Bantams (20-4) advanced to play Wapato today with their win over the Bulldogs (16-6) at Central Washington.

Bi-District 6/7 1A

Chelan 50, Colville 44: Aaron McQuaid scored six of his 18 points in the fourth quarter and the Goats (14-5) outscored the Indians (13-11) 26-18 in the second half to move into the championship game at Mead High School. The Indians, led by Matt Hubbard’s 22 points and 10 rebounds, will play Cashmere at 3:30 p.m. today with the winner advancing to the state tournament.

Lakeside 64, Cashmere 53: Ryan Gunderson had 15 points and 14 rebounds and the Eagles (16-7) built a 19-point lead, holding off a late run by the Bulldogs (13-8) to advance to the district title game against Chelan. Kyle Powell hit 6 of 14 from the floor for a game-high 17 points and Zach Warlick added nine points as the Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 39-24 combined in the second and third quarters.

District 9 1B

Rosalia 51, Colton 46: Nathan Richards scored 23 points to go with nine rebounds and the Spartans (21-1) qualified for the state tournament, hitting six free throws in the final 44 seconds to beat the Wildcats (14-8) in the district title game in Colfax.

Dustin Patchen tallied 25 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks for Colton, which will play Garfield-Palouse at 3:30 p.m. today for the final spot in the state tournament.

Garfield-Palouse 61, St. John-Endicott 54: Blake Slocum notched 16 points and four steals, Nathan Cocking added nine points, nine rebounds and four assists and the Vikings (12-11) used a 21-11 run in the fourth quarter to eliminate the Eagles (11-12). Mason Van Lith led the way for St. John-Endicott, scoring 16 points and adding 12 rebounds.
