Treat weather as science
Why is The Spokesman publishing the hack pseudo-science of amateur climatologists Randy Mann and Cliff Harris?
While Mann and Harris have every right to their opinions on climate (and evolution, and impending Biblical end times), their views on our responsibility for climate change contradict those of every major relevant scientific academy, after the greatest scientific inquiry of all time.
Those academies tell us we face a very large climate problem of our own making, and the damage has been underestimated. Yet Mann and Harris spread doubt, delaying action to solve this while we can.
Mann’s Feb. 10 column was a sad example, but the capper is Harris’ claim in The Spokesman on Feb. 26, 2007: “I do believe in a period of extreme global warming. That will be in the tribulation period. That’s when the real global warming will come in. Those of us who are believers, we’re looking forward to it.”
Crazy talk.
Meanwhile, real experts tell us climate change will soon hit hard. Fixes are affordable, but they can come only from collective action. The longer we delay, the graver the threat to life, property and economic health.
Do us a favor; leave Mann and Harris to the blogosphere.
