Libertarianism’s no party

I can appreciate the fact that the author of the letter (“Selection and deception,” Feb. 17) doesn’t buy into Ron Paul’s politics. It’s not something that can be purchased. It has to be lived.

Ron Paul campaigns as a Republican for the same reasons that I support his efforts to do so. Mr. Paul and I are not Libertarians politically; libertarianism is a social philosophy not a political party.

A few years ago we probably would have been considered to be members of the “Old Right” faction along with Robert A. Taft, “Mr. Republican”; Isabel Paterson, author of “The God of the Machine” (1943); and Howard Buffett (Warren’s father), U.S. congressman from Nebraska.

There’s nothing in the U.S. Constitution concerning partisan politics because the Founding Fathers didn’t think the people would even consider “choosing sides” to be useful. Let the games begin!
