In brief: Auditions in March for ‘Treasure Island’

SPOKANE VALLEY – Theater Arts for Children will hold auditions for “Treasure Island,” beginning March 6 at 6:30 p.m. Auditions will take place at the Spokane Valley Partners building, 10814 E. Broadway Ave., and will be also be held on March 7 at 6:30 p.m.

The show, based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, is a tale of the adventure of the villainous Long John Silver following young Jim across the ocean to search out a buried fortune on Treasure Island.

Immigration plans open house

RIVERSIDE – The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will hold an open house Friday at the USCIS Spokane Field Office, 920 W. Riverside Ave., from 1 to 3 p.m., for community members interested in learning how to apply for permanent residency and citizenship.

Attendees also can learn how to make their own appointments using the InfoPass kiosk; how to pursue their relatives’ history; learn how to apply for a passport; learn how to avoid being exploited by fraudulent preparers, and find out how the E-Verify system helps employers hire people with valid work authorization.

Photo identification is required to enter the Field Office.

Donation at IHOP gets free pancakes

SPOKANE/COEUR D’ALENE – On Tuesday, local IHOP restaurants will celebrate National Pancake Day. The event is part of a national fundraiser, with all IHOP restaurants.

From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., IHOP visitors can order a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes with a donation to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The network includes area Providence hospitals, St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute, Kootenai Medical Center, and Inland Northwest Health Services.

In 2010, local restaurants raised more than $23,000 for Spokane and Coeur d’Alene’s local Children’s Miracle Network programs.
