Max Salesky scored 27 points, hitting 6 of 6 from the free-throw line in overtime, as top-seeded Priest River avoided an upset Wednesday with a 67-64 win over No. 4 Bonners Ferry at the 3A District I boys basketball tournament at Lakeland High in Rathdrum.
Eric Holbrook added 24 points for the Spartans (16-5), who will play St. Maries (17-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Lakeland for a berth to state.
Mat Evans scored 20 points for the Badgers (4-15), who will meet Kellogg (14-6) at 6 p.m. Friday in a loser-out game.
St. Maries 59, Kellogg 41: Jake Mercer and Warren Joiner combined for 35 points to lead the Lumberjacks past the Wildcats. St. Maries’ Ian Heath added 10 points and combined with Joiner for 17 rebounds.
1A Division I
Lakeside 74, Wallace 55: Nate Weaselhead totaled 14 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists and five steals as the host Knights (12-6) eliminated the Miners (8-12) at Plummer. Lamont Higgins added 10 rebounds and six assists for Lakeside, which will meet either Clearwater Valley or Lapwai in a state play-in game at 6 p.m. Saturday at St. Maries.
1A Division II
Mullan 36, Clark Fork 30: The Tigers (3-13) eliminated the visiting Wampus Cats (4-10). Mullan will play at Kootenai at 6 p.m. Friday for a state berth.
For a second straight night, the 5A and 4A Region I boys basketball championship games were postponed by poor road conditions.
The games – Lewiston at Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint at Moscow – have been rescheduled for tonight. The Lewiston-CdA game is set for 5:30.
The Lewiston-CdA loser will go to Post Falls to decide a second state berth. That game, originally set for Friday, has been moved to Saturday at 5.
The 2A District I-II game at Lapwai, Coeur d’Alene Charter vs. Grangeville, was postponed until 7 tonight.
