Megamind is a villain you can fall in love with

Philadelphia Enquirer

Available this week on DVD:

“Megamind”: With an origin story borrowed from Superman, a lair borrowed from Batman and a skin complexion borrowed from a robin’s egg, Megamind – the title character of DreamWorks Animation’s smart, snappy superhero send-up – is a villain to love. Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill and Brad Pitt deliver the snappy dialogue, and the DreamWorks team delivers the goods. (1:36; PG for action and some language) • • •

“Get Low”: Robert Duvall delivers another ineffable and slightly nutty performance as an ornery old hermit in backwoods Tennessee who decides to throw his own “funeral party” while he’s still alive. This handsome, down-home, Depression-era tale also boasts Bill Murray, quietly crafty as a funeral parlor director, and Sissy Spacek as a widow with a fateful connection to Duvall’s character. (1:40; PG-13 for some thematic material and brief violent content) • • •

“Due Date”: More like a “Dude Date,” this odd-couple “Odyssey” stars Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis as an expectant father and boyish man traveling cross-country after being booted off a plane. A rude road trip that takes many turnoffs from the highway of funny-ha-ha to the dirt roads of funny-ouch. (1:35; R for language, drug use and sexual content) • • 1/2
