Moscow boys defeat Sandpoint for 4A state berth

 

Lane Brooks scored 14 points and Roby Jung added 12 as the Moscow Bears qualified for state Thursday with a 55-37 win over the visiting Sandpoint Bulldogs to complete the 4A Region I tournament.

Moscow (8-13) held the Bulldogs to 10 first-half points and took a 25-point lead into the final quarter.

Jackson Olin hit three 3-pointers on the way to 15 points for Sandpoint (11-13).

Moscow finished 3-1 against the Bulldogs this season, including the last three games in the series.

Moscow turned its season around after an early-January loss to Sandpoint left the Bears at 3-8.

The state tournament begins Thursday at Borah High in Boise.

Moscow joins Madison, Minico and Twin Falls in the eight-team field.

Postponements

Weather conditions again forced the postponement of the 5A Region I game matching Lewiston at Coeur d’Alene. The teams will attempt to play the winner-to-state game at 7:30 tonight.

• Weather also postponed The 2A District I-II game between Coeur d’Alene Charter and Grangeville at Lapwai. The game was rescheduled for 7 p.m. today. The winner will advance to a state play-in game against Clearwater Valley.
