Wide receiver Markee White returns to Spokane Shock

The Spokane Shock announced Thursday the return of wide receiver Markee White for the 2011 season. During last year’s postseason, White had 24 receptions – including a team-best nine in the ArenaBowl – for 234 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Shock also added quarterback Joe Ayoob, WR Juamorris Stewart, linebacker Terrance Moore, offensive lineman Dace Richardson and defensive lineman Jonathan Williams.

WR Eddie Thompson, defensive back Josh Morris and DL Charles Alexander were traded to the Pittsburgh Power for claim order position. OL Antonio Narcisse was placed on the physically unable to perform list for the duration of training camp. The Shock released DLs Chase Ortiz and Angelo Craig and WR Brent Holmes.

The Shock open their season March 11 on the road against the San Jose SaberCats.

Track and field

The Western Athletic Conference honored Idaho sophomores Liga Velvere and Kristine Leonard (Rathdrum) as women’s track and field athletes of the week.

Velvere broke the Vandals’ school record in the 400-meter run (55.46 seconds) at last week’s WSU Open II.

Leonard posted career bests in the shot put (45 feet, 3 1/2 inches) and weight throw (48-5 1/4) at the same meet.
