ACH defeats defending champs

Almira/Coulee-Hartline had to wait a year to do it, but avenged its loss in the girls state championship game with a 45-43 over Colton at Walla Walla High School Friday.

The Warriors (22-2) sent the defending champion Colton Wildcats (21-2) into today’s loser-out game against St. John-Endicott. Colton won the 1B crown last year in the Spokane Arena, 64-34.

St. John-Endicott 59, Odessa-Harrington 42: The Eagles (20-4) passed their first test at state and the prize is facing defending champion Colton today at Walla Walla High School. Game time is 1 p.m. The loss ended the Titans’ (14-11) season.

St. John-Endicott forced the Titans into 36 turnovers and held a 30-15 rebounding edge. Emily Kucklick led the Eagles with 18 points and six steals.

Columbia 54, Pomeroy 32: The Lions (24-3) advanced to the second round with the win over Pomeroy (16-5) in the loser-out game at East Wenatchee’s Eastmont High School.

Columbia will take on Moses Lake Christian today at 1. Sunnyside Christian advanced to the round of eight next week at the Spokane Arena with a 59-25 win over Moses Lake Christian.

Lindsay Loe and Krista Colvin each scored 12 for the Lions.

Selkirk 67, Mt. Rainier Lutheran 23: The Rangers (19-8) advanced to the second round with the win over Mt. Rainier Lutheran in a loser-out game at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Selkirk faces Columbia Adventist in a loser-out game at Mountlake Terrace today. Neah Bay advanced to next week’s tournament in Spokane with a 64-46 win over Columbia Adventist.

Boys

Rosalia 70, Almira/Coulee-Hartline 64 (OT): Casey Brown scored all of his 14 points in the second half and the Spartans (22-2) hit 15 of 17 free throws after halftime to hand the Warriors (23-1) their first loss of the season and earn a trip to Spokane.

The Warriors face Cusick today in a loser-out game at WWHS.

Cusick 65, Lyle-Wishram 31: The Panthers (19-7) used 24 points and 11 rebounds from Kyle Edwards to easily win the loser-out game at Walla Walla High School. Louie Bluff chipped in 19 rebounds and seven points.

Colton 66, Wellpinit 55: The Wildcats (16-8) beat the Redskins (20-6) in their first state tournament game and can advance to the Spokane Arena with a win today against Moses Lake Christian Academy at Eastmont High School at 3.

Defending state champion Sunnyside Christian defeated Moses Lake Christian 51-33.

Northport 59, King’s Way Christian 57: Adrian Konkler took a length-of-the-court pass from Phil Johnson with 1.3 seconds left in the game and flipped in the winner to record the first state tournament win for the Mustangs (14-11) at Mountlake Terrace High.

The dramatic victory put Northport into the loser-out game against Neah Bay today at MTHS. Johnson finished with seven assists and 14 points. Jeremiah Johnson added 13 points for the Mustangs.

Mt. Rainier Lutheran earned a trip to Spokane with a 62-40 win over Neah Bay.
