Choose experts carefully

I have a bachelor’s degree in geology and in meteorology as well as a master’s degree in geophysics and years of experience working as a meteorologist. Neither meteorologists nor climatologists are the experts in global climate change that Mr. David Camp asserts (Letters, Feb. 19).

To understand climate change, one has to be well-versed in the concept or geologic time; the experts are astrophysicists. Meteorology is a “now” science and climatology deals with 30- to 40-year periods. In addition, consensus is the opposite of the scientific method and is a media term. The only agreement in the global warming controversy is that it happened. What caused it was and is controversial to studying scientists.

That pollution is bad for our health goes without saying, but attempting to scare people to take action that lowers their standard of living because of years of not being able to convince them is deplorable, no matter how convinced the elite are about its necessity.
