Marty puts words to art of conservation
OUTSPOKEN – Sid Marty, Canadian singer, songwriter, poet and author, will present a program Wednesday, 7:30 p.m., in the intimate 50-seat setting at Rick Singer Photography Studio, W. 415½ Main Ave.
Marty is best known as an author, conservationist and spokesman for the wild places and bears of the Rocky Mountains. He can sing, too.

Commission considers four-point buck rule
OUTRULE – The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will hear public comment on proposals for 2011 big-game hunting seasons when it meets Friday and Saturday at the Spokane Convention Center.
A lingering proposal for a four-point minimum on whitetail bucks hunted in Units 117 and 121 in Stevens County is likely to be open for discussion.
Although meetings have been held on this issue in the past, this is the last opportunity for public comment before the commission votes on proposed amendments to the big-game rules April 8-9 in Olympia.
Vendors show latest stuff to whitewater group
OUTGEAR – The Northwest Whitewater Association will hold its annual Vendors Night on Wednesday at Jack & Dan’s Bar and Grill, 1226 N. Hamilton St.
Representatives of Northwest River Supply, Mountain Gear and others will be on hand for the informal gathering, which starts at 6 p.m. for dinner and socializing before the 7 p.m. presentation.

Free Avalanche Awareness class at REI
OUTCLASS – Jon Dodge of Priest Lake Search & Rescue will teach a free introductory course on Avalanche Awareness Thursday, March 3, 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at REI, 1125 N Monroe.
Basics he’ll cover include how to interpret avalanche advisories, gear necessary for travelling in avalanche terrain and how to assess the risks.

Idaho club gives kids a shot at shooting, bird hunting
OUTDO – Next Sunday is a big day for youngsters ages 10-16 who sign up for the annual Kids Day at Little Canyon Shooting east of Lewiston near Peck, Idaho.
The free event, including lunch, allows kids, under close supervision, to try shooting at a sporting clay field, a .22 rifle range and life-size targets at the archery range.
Participants who have passed a hunter education course also will be scheduled for a session of pheasant hunting.
