Reeves Nelson had a career-high 27 points and 16 rebounds, and UCLA defeated No. 10 Arizona 71-49 on Saturday to tie the Wildcats for first place in the Pac-10 in the last men’s game played at historic Pauley Pavilion before it closes for renovation.

Joshua Smith added 17 points and Tyler Honeycutt had 15 for the Bruins, who share the league’s top spot at 12-4 with two games remaining. They have won 12 of 14 after being out of the top 25 all season.

Derrick Williams scored 15 points and Kyle Fogg had 10 for the Wildcats, who stumbled through a lost weekend in L.A. They arrived with a two-game lead only to be upset by Southern California on Thursday.

Then they encountered a UCLA team hellbent on grabbing a share of the Pac-10 crown for itself while leaving Pauley on a winning note in front of the late coach John Wooden’s family. The program’s 11 national championship banners will be packed away while the arena is remodeled before it reopens for the 2012-13 season.

Now the regular-season title comes down to next weekend, when Arizona hosts the Oregon schools and UCLA hits the road to face the Washington schools.

UCLA held the Wildcats to a season-low in points; Arizona came in averaging 77.6. The Wildcats shot 21 percent from 3-point range, well off their league-leading 41 percent.

USC 62, Arizona State 46: At Los Angeles, Nikola Vucevic finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, and the Trojans had little trouble beating the Wildcats.

Alex Stepheson had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Donte Smith added 12 points on three 3-pointers for USC.

Trent Lockett and Keala King both had 14 points to lead last-place Arizona State.

California 87, Oregon State 76: At Corvallis, Ore., Allen Crabbe scored 26 points, Markhuri Sanders-Frison added 16 and the Golden Bears were able to overcome a slow start to beat the Beavers.

Jorge Gutierrez had 14 points and nine assists and Harper Kamp contributed 12 points for California.

Crabbe was 8 of 12 from the field for Cal, which has won three in a row.

Stanford 88, Oregon 71: At Eugene, Ore., Josh Owens had a career-high 31 points with 11 rebounds, and the Cardinal prevented what would have been their longest losing streak in 18 years with a victory against the Ducks.

Jeremy Green added 15 points and Dwight Powell had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Stanford, which had lost four straight. A fifth would have been the most for since closing the 1992-93 season with six straight losses.
