Thrills on tap for ‘V,’ which managed a season 2 pickup

Chuck Barney

What do those mysterious visiting aliens have in store for humanity? Fortunately, we’ll be able to find out on “V” Tuesday night at 9 on ABC. At one point, this sci-fi thriller appeared to be dead, a victim of lackluster ratings. But it managed to earn a second season pickup, and now producers are promising more action, more plot twists and more surprises. Regarding the latter, fans of the original miniseries will be pleased to hear that Jane Badler is reprising her role of Diana. As for her majesty Anna (Morena Baccarin), well she’s as fierce as ever. Just watch what happens when she whips out her lizard tail. Hint: It ain’t pretty.

Tonight’s best bets

• Don’t burn the toast. “Worst Cooks in America” is back for Season 2 as star chefs Anne Burrell and Robert Irvine organize a culinary boot camp aimed at transforming kitchen zeroes into heroes. 9 p.m., Food Network.

• Who shot Paul Young? It doesn’t have nearly the same buzz as that J.R. incident back in the day. But still, we’re curious to find out what went down after the Wisteria Lane riot on “Desperate Housewives.” 9 p.m., ABC.
