Basketball roundup: Greyhounds turn back East Valley

Corey Langerveld scored 18 points to go with six rebounds and two blocks and Pullman (7-1, 1-0) hit 5 of 6 free throws in the final 12 seconds to upend host East Valley (7-2, 0-1) 52-49 in their Great Northern League opener.

Jake Reynolds scored 26 to go with nine boards for the Knights, who led by two points with 12 seconds left.

The Knights were then called for a foul, received a technical and had to foul on the inbound, completing the five-point swing for the Greyhounds.

Clarkston 35, West Valley 33: Tommy Sperry scored eight points and blocked a go-ahead shot by the visiting Eagles (6-2, 0-1) in the final seconds to lift the Bantams (7-1, 1-0) to a win. The Bantams held West Valley’s leading scorer, Brady Bagby, to 11 points.

Medical Lake 36, Deer Park 25: Alex Haynes scored all seven of his points in the third quarter, helping the Cardinals (7-2, 1-0) take a 10-point lead they would hold the rest of the way against the visiting Stags (4-5, 0-1). Kendyl Dunn had eight points to lead the Cardinals, while Luke Turner’s seven led the Stags.

Nonleague

Wellpinit 75, St. John-Endicott 48: Drake Wynne went 9 of 12 from the floor for 21 points and added nine assists, Greg Wynecoop added 12 points and 19 rebounds and the Redskins (8-3) cruised to a win over the visiting Eagles (2-6). The Redskins outscored SJE 23-12 in the final quarter.

Davenport 61, Odessa-Harrington 44: Joey Gunning had 19 points and eight rebounds and Ryan Zeller added 11 points and seven assists as the Gorillas (4-3) upended the visiting Titans (3-7). Justin Hunt finished with 16 points for OH.

Wilbur-Creston 57, Inchelium 50: Josh Tonasket poured in 12 of his 24 points in the first quarter and the visiting Wildcats (6-1) forced 21 turnovers by the Hornets (1-5) to pick up the win.

Curlew 52, Kettle Falls 48: Jaime Zerck came off the bench to lead the Cougars (5-3) with 20 points and the Bulldogs (1-8) gave up a five-point lead, getting outscored 18-9 in the fourth quarter in Curlew.

Valley Christian 43, Northport 39: Tyler Tipke finished with 10 points and Craver Small added eight points, leading the Panthers (7-2) to a win over the visiting Mustangs (4-5). Michal Marko and Adrian Konkler each had 10 points to lead the Mustangs.

Northeast A

Newport 69, Colville 52: Jake Wiley finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the visiting Grizzlies (7-4, 1-0) to a win in their Northeast A League opener against the Indians (5-4, 0-1). Matt Hubbard had 18 points and seven rebounds to lead the Indians.

Freeman 66, Chewelah 44: Mitch Vander Linden had 17 points, Cody Unfred added 16 points and the visiting Scotties (5-6, 1-0) scored 59 of their 66 points in the first three points against the Cougars (4-7, 0-1). Andrew Pugh and Gene Schatz each had 10 points for the Cougars.

Riverside 60, Lakeside 52: Jordan Wood went 7 of 8 from the 3-point line, hitting six of his 3-pointers in the second half to lift the Rams (5-5, 1-0) to a win over the visiting Eagles (4-6, 0-1). Wood finished with 23 points to lead all scorers, while Lakeside was led by 14 points from Connor Moffatt.

Colfax 64, Reardan 38: J.J. Robinson led all scorers with 18 points and Brandon Gfeller added 17 points as the visiting Bulldogs (6-1, 3-0) held the Indians (5-5, 4-2) to just six points in the second and third quarter

Northwest Christian 69, St. George’s 44: Cole Ramey scored 12 of his 20 points in the second quarter, helping the visiting Crusaders (6-1, 4-0) outscore the Dragons (4-4, 3-1) 24-13 in the frame to take a 14-point halftime lead.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 46, Liberty 33: Jake Eichner tallied 19 points to go with seven rebounds and the Broncos (5-3, 2-2) went on a 33-3 run after initially trailing the visiting Lancers (2-7, 1-4) 19-7.

Cusick 71, Columbia 29: Tyler Edwards finished with 32 points, going 7 of 12 from the 3-point line and the Panthers (4-4, 3-0) put the visiting Lions (1-9, 1-3) away, outscoring them 39-9 in the second half. Dominick Marquez had 18 points to lead the Lions.

Caribou Trail

Lake Roosevelt 57, Liberty Bell 21: Ty Egbert scored 13 points to go with 11 rebounds as the host Raiders (6-2, 1-0) beat the Mountain Lions (1-6, 1-1) at Coulee Dam.
