Drought at end costs EWU in men’s basketball

SEATTLE — Alex Jones tied his season high with 21 points, and Seattle kept Eastern Washington off the scoreboard for the final 4:07 Thursday night, winning the nonconference game 60-51. Aaron Broussard added 15 points for the Redhawks (6-11), who bounced back from Sunday’s 84-64 loss at Pepperdine. Kevin Winford led the Eagles (4-10) with 11 points, and Tremayne Johnson had 10. The Eagles lost their 13th straight road game. They have not won on the road since a 75-73 victory at Montana State on Jan. 10, 2010. Laron Griffin hit two free throws to bring Eastern Washington within 55-51 with 4:07 to play. But Seattle scored the last five points, all at the foul line. Sterling Carter hit a pair with 28.5 seconds left to make it a three-possession game at 58-51. Garrett Lever added the final two points for Seattle.
