Woman injured in head-on crash with semi

One person was injured in a collision at 10:38 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 90 near Wallace when a semi truck lost control and struck her vehicle head on. Yuriy V. Kushniruk, 30, of Vancouver, Wash. was eastbound on I-90 when he lost control of the semi on the slushy road, according to Idaho State Police. Kushniruk’s truck launched over the barrier and hit Kate E. Cummings, 27, of Missoula, who was driving a Subaru Impreza. Kushniruk was driving too fast for conditions, police said. Cummings was transported to Kootenai Medical Center where she is in critical condition. Cummings also had two children in her vehicle. Their names, ages and conditions are not known. Kushniruk was not injured. The semi caught fire but it was quickly extinguished. It is unclear if any citations were issued. It also is not known if either driver was wearing their seatbelt.
