Museum loss intolerable

I was alarmed to read a letter to the editor recently proposing we close the Museum of Arts and Culture. Do people not realize what a gift to the community and our lives the MAC is?

As an elementary teacher I have consistently seen the arts change lives for the better. I have seen children in crisis soothed by great music, transported by great performances and fascinated by fine art. The arts help children make connections to history, music, mathematics, creativity and their future. I have watched children come alive observing the artifacts and exhibits in the MAC. Can you imagine how much they would miss if they couldn’t see the rich history of Spokane and their world? The MAC is truly a living classroom and lab where learning is launched.

The MAC is a unique and extraordinary gift to all our citizens and visitors. It chronicles our history and showcases marvelous art. If we lose it, we lose part of our heart and soul Spokane.
