Pac-10 briefs: Bears crash the boards

Looking at Arizona State’s smallish lineup and its penchant for giving up offensive rebounds, California knew just where to attack.

The Golden Bears used aggressive rebounding to overcome poor shooting to win their first Pac-10 game, 65-61 over the Sun Devils (8-7, 1-3) on Saturday at Tempe, Ariz.

The Bears (8-7, 1-2 Pac-10) struggled to get shots to go down, hitting just 38 percent from the floor. Cal made up for it with 18 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second-change points.

Stanford at Arizona, ppd.: Arizona postponed its game against Stanford in the wake of the shootings of U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and others in Tucson. The game has been rescheduled for 11:30 a.m. today.
