Second-half surge leaves OSU in wake
SEATTLE – What a difference a year makes.
Last season, the Washington Huskies started 1-3 when the Pac-10 race began.
After Saturday’s 103-72 victory against Oregon State, No. 23 Washington is 4-0 in the conference, which equals its best start since 1984.
The Huskies have a school record 11-game winning streak against conference foes and Saturday’s victory was the latest in a string of home blowout victories at Edmunson Pavilion.
Senior forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning and junior guard Isaiah Thomas led the way for Washington, which improved to 12-3 and has won six straight games.
Bryan-Amaning, the reigning Pac-10 Player of the Week, collected his fifth double-double and finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds while Thomas had 19 points and eight assists.
Oregon State (8-7, 2-2) attempted to counter Washington’s lethal one-two tandem with sophomore sensation Jared Cunningham (21 points).
The midday matchup in front of 9,671 began slowly for the Huskies.
Oregon State controlled the first half and led by as many as nine points (37-28) with 3:25 remaining, but Washington led 40-39 at halftime.
In the second half, the Huskies started with a 22-5 run that broke the game open.
Freshman guard Terrence Ross capped the run with a putback that gave UW a 62-44 lead.
The Huskies reached 100 points for the fifth time this season.
