Your week

Sure, your front stoop might be ice-free, but how does it smell?

Fruits & Passion’s Scented De-Icing Salt will melt the slippery stuff off your sidewalk while releasing a Winter Berries fragrance, a combination of berries and cedar wood.

It comes packaged in a metal pail with a wood scoop. The 35-ounce pail sells for $9.90 at www.fruits-passion.com (to find it quickly, search for the words “de-icing salt.”) Shipping is extra.

If you’re losing sleep (over the smell of your sidewalk, or whatever else might be troubling you), the next day can be no fun at all.

To feel a bit better, and improve your odds of a good rest the next night, sleep specialists suggest:

• Drink plenty of water. Dehydration makes you even sleepier.

• Eat small, healthy meals. That way, your body won’t have to put much energy into digestion.

• If you really need some shut-eye, limit naps to 20 or 30 minutes and don’t snooze after 4 p.m.

Calling all fennel fans: Fennel seed teams with coriander seed and cracked black pepper to make a zesty coating for pan-seared swordfish, while a marinated salad of sliced fresh fennel bulb is an apt accompaniment. For the recipe, see page C5.
